Headers

I had a go at making my own headers. Took some time and plenty of grinding unfortunately but I got there in the end. A little bit of welding practice goes a long way!
I visited a local exhaust specialist Chris Tullett Exhausts Ltd. for all the tubing and they also cut me some flanges to suit. They were very helpful indeed.

Roll Bars

I decided here to go against my original AK build manual and fit roll bars further apart. I wanted to see them more in line with the centre of the seats.
Before cutting into anything I checked there was plenty of space between the back of the wheel arch and the tyre.

This meant I couldn't use the original pre-drilled mounting points so I had to make up a new bracket.

Dashboard Mods...

As I had one of AK's early dashboards, it needed a rolled edge adding to keep my IVA man happy.
I carefully cut a length of hose and stuck it in place. Then filled in and around with some P40. Keeping in mind that it would all be covered up should I make a poor job of it!

Side Vents

Having looked around at many others ideas I preferred the double folded types so as when you look at the car from the side you can't see into the engine bay. I played around with some card before trying anything out for good!

I cut several strips of ally and bent them in a simple home made sheet metal bender. Once happy with the layout I stuck them together with a strong metal glue for trial fitting. With the fit checked, I polished each piece up and rounder all edges (IVA man was happy with these). Then I simply drilled and bolted them all together.

Alternator position..

One of the issues I had, as I think many have had, in fitting the rover engine into the AK was where to mount the alternator as it in its original position it interfered with the steering shaft.
I cut a section out of the standard mounting bracket so the alternator could sit on top...

Steering Wheel & Quick Release Hub

After visiting a few autojumbles I came across a mountney steering wheel and it looked just the right size. Not bad for a few quid! Polished up very nicely too.
The quick release hub was sourced while doing a bit of researching on a well known auction site!
I made a disc to join the two together. This has also been polished since the photo was taken.
